This research addresses the study of technical maintenance, comparing it with empirical maintenance, to facilitate the reuse of nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) batteries. These batteries, used as energy storage in photovoltaic systems, were decommissioned from the vehicle due to lack of maintenance. The aim is to give them a second life as energy storage. To achieve this, our research will focus on key aspects such as terminal maintenance, differentiating between technical and empirical methods, diagnostics, protective equipment, charging and discharging checks, voltage and amperage data, connections, cell models, and the specific vehicle in which they are applied. During this process, we used a consumer to collect data on the charging and discharging process of the cells and whether the maintenance process had any effect on it. The results established that there is a difference in charging and discharging performance with the two methods, thus supporting our research.
