Temperature control is essential during the first days of hatching birds, since it is during this period in which birds die from sudden changes in temperature; for this reason, an IoT system was developed and implemented for temperature control of the livestock area of the Instituto Superior Tecnológico Quinindé. The system allows real-time monitoring of the temperature of this area from the Thinger.io platform, which was developed using free software and hardware. For temperature acquisition, the DS18B20 temperature sensor was used, which is ideal for measuring temperature in humid environments since the sensor is located inside a waterproof stainless-steel tube. The temperature data is acquired, processed and sent to the Thinger.io platform from the NodeMCU ESP8266 microcontroller board. The actuators (fan and heater) are triggered automatically according to the temperature, but can be manipulated by the user from the IoT in case of any eventuality. If the temperature exceeds the maximum and/or minimum permissible range set by the user, the user is alerted by an e-mail notification to indicate that there is a mishap that must be attended to immediately. With the system implemented, it was possible to reduce the mortality rate of the birds during the first days after hatching.
